The Hokkaido characters (εŒ—ζ΅·ι“η•°δ½“ζ–‡ε—, hokkaidō itai moji), also known as Aino characters (γ‚’γ‚€γƒŽγƒ’γ‚Έ, aino moji) or Ainu characters (γ‚’γ‚€γƒŒζ–‡ε—, ainu moji), are a set of characters discovered around 1886 on the Japanese island of Hokkaido. At the time of their discovery, they were believed to be a genuine script, but this view is not generally supported today.
